Thalysis is the creator of the dwarves of Aegir. She is a member of the Divine Court. Thalysis was originally drawn to Aegir when she saw the warm earth and rich plant life. She created her people to use the earth and the plants, to nurture and grow the land to nourish more life. She is the patron of farmers and physical labor, in addition to those who work with stone or metal. She is also a healing goddess, and the one most mothers pray to when they are with child.

Thalysis is usually depicted as a female dwarf, ripe with child, long golden hair blowing in a breeze. She often is holding a shovel or other farming implement in one hand, the other resting on her belly.

Dogma[edit]

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.

Thalysis entreats her children to work hard, for in it's own way, hard work is a reward unto itself. Whether they are planting, weaving, working metal, or bearing children, Thalysis' children strive to better themselves through their work. Dwarves are very religious creatures, and see their work as a sort of prayer to their goddess. They live and die by the saying: "If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well."

Typical Followers[edit]

Dwarves almost exclusively worship Thalysis. She also receives passing devotion from other races, particularly common folk. Mothers bearing children pray to her, no matter what their race or normal religious background.

Clergy, Temples, and Religious Practices[edit]

Worship to Thalysis is done both in temples and in household shrines. Most dwarves keep a small shrine to Thalysis in their house. Dwarves are, on the whole, a very religious and mystic people, and are very devoted to their goddess.

While Thalysis herself is a mostly straightforward goddess, the dwarven clergy has become a strange and mysterious organization over the years. They shroud themselves in mysticism, especially towards outsiders. The clergy is known for sending young dwarves on religious quests when they come of age; quests which often take several years and traverse much of Aegir in the process. The reasons for these quests are many and varied, and can include anything from sending a midwife traveling through human lands to help birth children, to recovering ancient dwarven religious artifacts from the old dwarf homes of eastern Aegir.

Religious services devoted to Thalysis involved complex rituals, chants, hymns, prayer, and various incenses.
