Talk:Witch, Variant (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
Got a couple of dead levels in there. Every level should give a new feature, an attribute increase, or access to a new spell level. More spell slots (or spell points) doesn't cut it. Levels 2, 6, 14, and 20(!!??) are all dead levels. And inline with my shock/surprise before... no capstone? Really? This needs to go back to being marked incomplete. In fact, I think I will do so. Otherwise, it looks pretty good, but this one isn't done yet..--Guildsbounty (talk) 12:56, 7 July 2016 (MDT)
I agree about not having a capstone. About the other levels, well, try taking a look at the players handbook. Only barbarians, fighters, monks, and rogues don't have any dead levels. But yeah, definitely needs a 20th level feature. Maybe you could move the covenant ability 4 up to 20th level. Covenant ability 4 is almost immortality. It seems a bit overpowered unless it's a 20th level feature. I'm planning on playing a witch, variant, but if I do, I'll have a conversation with my DM about that. It's great, just not quite finished.--6:32 1/16/2017
Suggested updates[edit]
So, to round this out. It seems the best notion is to capstone with the 4th covenant ability. For wicked I would consolidate the final detail to say it can simply be used 3 time per long rest. That would be sufficient. - SkinnyWizard 7/3/2017
I was taking a look at the class are their seems to be a few minor things that need fixing in the class. Creating a Witch needs to be filled out. You can cast way too many high level spells compared to the wizard. Consider increasing the spell point cost of the 5th level and above spells to 8(5th level), 10(6th level), 12(7th level), 15(8th level), and 20(9th level) or to a score similar to those. It is also worth mentioning that you might want to decrease the amount of spell points you get each level from 9th level onward, with a maximum spell points being somewhere in the 70-80 range. The hardness on the Witch Talisman should be removed, hardness is not in 5e. Witch's Conveyance and Witch's Home should be before Witch Covenant, since archetypes come at the end of a class right before multiclassing.--Blobby383b (talk) 10:42, 5 July 2017 (MDT)
- Changing the spell points so you can cast more spells at earlier levels and less higher level spells doesn't break the class. Also, how does changing the spell points to the balanced version of the spell point system used in the DMG "unbalanced"? As such, I trust the DMG much more than another user's comments on how the class's spellcasting should look like.--Blobby383b (talk) 17:35, 7 January 2018 (MST)
- Also this "perfect class" had a +3 bonus to AC and saving throws among other broken talismans and subclass features. Considering the fact that you undid efforts to improve the class as well, you may want to read up on Class Do's and Don'ts (5e Guideline) and 5e Class Design Guide among reading up about creating classes/classes in general in the PHB and DMG. If you can't be bothered to understand the game you're playing, you're kind of missing the point of making/editing classes.--Blobby383b (talk) 17:52, 7 January 2018 (MST)
