Talk:Wayang (5e Race)

From D&D Wiki

  • 5e doesn't have "racial bonuses". You could make it just a +2 bonus but generally a race would either have advantage on some saving throws / skills, or be proficient in a skill. This is the way 5e prevents excessive bonus stacking.
  • What is a "shadow based spell"? What is a "shadow subschool"?
  • What are "positive and negative energy effects"?
  • What is the "protean" and "shadowspeak" languages? They are not listed in the PHB. What defines "those of high Intelligence"?
  • 5e small creatures do not get bonuses to AC or Stealth, you're thinking of 3.5e
  • 5e doesn't use the Supernatural (Su) designator.
  • Minor grammar issues: Spell names are lower case italics. The race name is not a proper noun. Marasmusine (talk) 02:46, 24 July 2015 (MDT)

OGL issue[edit]

May need to remove this entry as I didn't realize the the race was not included in OGL for Pathfinder. It may or not be as I'm not entirely versed in "legalease".

Racial bonuses removed and retooled to better fit within the scope of 5e.

"Shadow based" and "shadow subschool" have been removed and descriptors based on flavor and 5e spells have been included.

Descriptors and/or examples for "positive and negative energy" have been added.

Descriptors for "Protean" and "Shadowspeak" have been added. "High intelligence" simply refers to intelligence modifier bonus for extra languages.

Stealth mechanics have been changed to reflect "Advantage" and AC bonus has been removed.

"(Su)" removed.

Spell names changed to italics and capitals removed.

This is still not a 5e race.
  • Ghost sound and ventriloqusim are not in the 5e PHB.
  • In 5e, stealth is not linked to speed
  • Illusions spells do not require anyone to make a saving throw.
  • You would have advantage on the Stealth check, not a +10 bonus.
  • 5e does not have "immediate actions".
  • 5e does not define "positive and negative energy effects", nor does it have cause wounds, nor does cure wounds harm an undead creature, nor does necrotic damage heal undead creatures.
  • 5e has particular wording for darkvision that should be used here.
  • If "Wayang" is a new language, it's written and spoken forms should be described.
  • 5e does not have an "intelligence modifier bonus for extra languages", or the protean or shadowspeak languages.
  • Fated Form: 5e doesn't have this kind of round-counting.
I genuinely do not know what edition you intended this to be for. Was it supposed to be a 5e conversion of the Pathfinder race? Anyway, I'll give this another 2 weeks before I remove it. Marasmusine (talk) 02:48, 13 December 2015 (MST)

Yes it was an attempt at a 5e conversion from Pathfinder. Personally for homebrew campaigns we toss in positive and negative energy since they seemed to fit the setting and purpose of such spells very well.
