Talk:The Dark Seldarine (5e Subclass)

Fascinating[edit]

This is a splendid idea for a warlock! You can do a lot with this sort of flavor. However, there are one or two things that could be tacked on.

  • First, a ton of creatures and some classes have resistance or immunity to poison, especially at higher levels. You should include something along the lines of Elemental Bane, or some more original effect, to mitigate poison immunity. Maybe when you hit an enemy with a cantrip, they can take increased damage from poison rather than taking poison damage right then and there.
  • Second, depending on the campaign, you might be called to root out Lolith's enemies or to strike against Lolith's followers. There's not a lot here to help in battle against Drow or to do battle in the Underdark, especially at lower levels. Maybe this is too situational, but it is a suggestion nonetheless.
  • Third, can we have some kind of poison effect that puts creatures into a suggestive, hypnotic state? Something to aid in social encounters. When the creature recovers they might figure out that you poisoned them, which might add to the wicked taste of this subclass.
  • Fourth, we can get away with some more ludicrous stuff if we also work in a weakness. Maybe you have to roll a saving throw if exposed to bright light after having been in a dark place. Maybe Drow servants of your patron are drawn to your kills, so you have to be careful who you kill and where if you want innocents to be spared or for your presence not to be discovered. Maybe you have to pass a throw or become frightened of natural predators of spiders, or become obsessed with catching small insects that spiders might eat. A lot of that stuff is more into flavor than actual mechanics, but it is something to consider.

Oh, and you accidentally italicized most of the fourth bullet point in your capstone feature. I didn't want to mess with your stuff. Cheers!
