This allows a better bonus than regular magic weapons and armor, is this deliberate? Marasmusine (talk) 17:30, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

No, on page 285 of the DMG it states the bonuses appropiate for rarities, a legendary item can have a +4 bonus so long as it doesn't have other traits. Most legendary magic items have additional traits, so they have a +3 bonus to balance it out.

The balance of the item is fine, but the item should require attunement. Below is the DMG's section on requiring attunement (pp. 285):
  • If having all the characters in a party pass an item around to gain its lasting benefits would be disruptive, the item should require attunement.
  • If the item grants a bonus that other items also grant, it's a good idea to require attunement so that characters don't try to collect too many of those items.
Besides that small issue, the item is good and I likely will be saving it for later use because I love the idea.--Blobby383b (talk) 05:59, 21 February 2018 (MST)

No problem, good luck with your future brews.--Blobby383b (talk) 06:35, 21 February 2018 (MST)
Looking back at this page with more understand of how to balance magical items, it appears that the AC at all levels should be decreased by 1 as items which you don't actively need to hold to gain their benefits are deemed more powerful. For example, rare armor only gives a +1 bonus to your AC while a rare shield would give +2 bonus to your AC. As such this item should match the rarity and power of magical armor.--Blobby383b (talk) 16:33, 18 August 2019 (MDT)
