Talk:Sylvari, Variant (5e Race)

Can you be more specific as to how it doesn't fit into a standard setting? A huge part of the sylvari as a race is how their biology and culture are so closely intertwined, centered around the Pale Tree and the Dream. But the thing is, if you trim away some of their origin, this renders them almost independent of the original Guild Wars setting. An entire society able to be transplanted (heh) anywhere. So what is the problem? Is it the mention of Ronin, or the necromancy immunity? Or the idea that they're newly formed? Thewordywarlock (talk) 15:56, 16 May 2018 (MDT)

As stated in the template the 5e_Race_Design_Guide#History section is what you should read. Which give an eloquent and concise answer to your question. Afterward, some questions to ask yourself is about race relationships(how they view/interact with other core races), where are they commonly found(Feywilds/Material Plane), how do they view their fey ancestors and why did they split off if they did at all? While there is no Pale Tree or the Dream in the standard dnd think about how you can craft the lore to allude to such a thing but not mention it if you still want to have it be a part of the race. --ConcealedLightThis user is an administrator (talk) 03:12, 17 May 2018 (MDT)
Would changing the text from talking about one specific Pale Tree to talking about one of possibly many do any good? Thewordywarlock (talk) 12:15, 17 May 2018 (MDT)

Ugh, so this is finally in a state that's close to finished, but now I had an idea to replace the Cycles with the subraces of: normal sylvari, Soundless, and Nightmare Court. Of course, that would necessitate some changes to the lore. I also don't really know what the traits for the Soundless and Nightmare would be. Thewordywarlock (talk) 08:08, 17 June 2018 (MDT)

I mean that could work given the divide between the fey's Unseelie and Seelie courts. Divide the subraces up between those two and then have a neutral subrace that doesn't subscribe to the politics of either. Make sure to slap a {{WIP}} and {{inuse}} template on the page so people know you're working on it if you decide to do that. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 10:29, 17 June 2018 (MDT)
Alright, I got it done, but I think I messed up the race template a bit by messing with alignments and I'm not sure how to fix it. Side note, how do I change the summary in the Homebrew Race list to better differentiate from the original Sylvari page? Edit:Nevermind, I just overlooked the summary part of the traits.Thewordywarlock (talk) 02:03, 18 June 2018 (MDT)
I fixed the alignment section so it worked, you need to have it filled in with these race templates or they bug out expecting an entry. I believe all that is left is to integrate them with the Feywild's two factions as I mentioned previously and then describe their relationship with the elves(and their various subraces), as well as other feywild denizens. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 07:50, 18 June 2018 (MDT)
They're based in the Material Plane and don't actually have much to do with the Feywild, I believe the Sylvan language is a remnant from the original page because it just kinda sounds like Sylvari. Thewordywarlock (talk) 09:14, 18 June 2018 (MDT)
That seems rather silly given their physical similarities to fey creatures and the that thematically they scream fey. Why not utilize and build into the first party content when it makes sense to? —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 22:17, 18 June 2018 (MDT)
Alright, I don't really know or care much about the fey with regards to DnD,but I'll put in an allusion to it in their origin for DMs to play with. Thewordywarlock (talk) 16:43, 19 June 2018 (MDT)
