Talk:Swashbuckler with better-than-rogue Sneak Attack (3.5e Optimized Character Build)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is my first wiki entry, so I made a few errors, feel free to contribute/correct, also, how do I edit and move it to another section 3.5e Optimized Characters page? Thanks for the help. -Dancing Mad

how are you getting 4 feats at first level? taking flaws?--Name Violation 05:30, 22 September 2009 (MDT)

Yup, mentioned specifically, I should be more specific though. - Dancing Mad 10:26, 22 Sept 2009 (est)

so 3d6 Sneak attack from swash via daring outlaw, 3 from invisible blade, where is the extra d6 coming from? am i just missing something?--Name Violation 15:39, 22 September 2009 (MDT)

Daring Outlaw makes Swashbuckler and Rogue levels stack for the purpose of determining Sneak Attack. -Dancing Mad September 23, 2009.

i totally get that. I know the feat daring outlaw. but you should have 3 "rouge" sneak attack dice (from 1st, 3rd, and 5th level) and 3 from prestige class (at char levels 6,8,and 10) at 10th level. that's 6d6. not 7d6. I REPEAT where is the extra d6 coming from?--Name Violation 00:24, 24 September 2009 (MDT)

Er wait, you're right, I misadded. -Dancing Mad

also IMHO you have stats in all the wrong places. no need for a 14 cha when you could ad it to int for more damage. and i'd have a higher str than dex for ranged accuracy. int to damage isn't halved on off hand so its a better option than str unless your fighting things immune to SA anyway--Name Violation 13:47, 28 September 2009 (MDT)

Charisma is a high priority stat for this build, it's used for bluff, which is used for feinting, str and int directly add to damage, but Charisma affects the chance of getting a sneak attack, which is more important than hitting. The max of +3 you're going to get from raising your dex doesn't matter as much as making your enemy flat footed. And throwing isn't really on the list for this build, point blank shot and far shot are only in because they're pre-reqs for Invisible blade. I would say possibly shifting the Cha and Str around, but beyond that, I think they're well placed. - Dancing Mad 3:34 AM, 01 October 2009 (EST)

I like this build a lot, but wouldn't DEX be more important than STR? You need 15 DEX for Two-Weapon Fighting and 17 DEX for Improved Two-Weapon Fighting. Swashbucklers get Weapon Finesse at lvl 1 to help with the attack rolls anyway. -Vandette

Sorry, but you can't use feint more than once in a round. Complete Warrior Errata "fixed" this.

Try leveraging the Surprising Riposte feat from Drow of the Underdark, it causes the victim to be flat-footed for the rest of the round. Also, 2 levels of rogue would give you 1 bab, 3 ref, trap finding, 40 skill points, 1d6 SnA, and credibility. --Ganre 23:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

This doesn't work. Daring Outlaw adds Swashbuckler and Rogue levels together, not Swashbuckler and whatever gives Sneak Attack levels.--AlyxTheKitty 16:18, 4 March 2011 (MST)
