Issues With This Item[edit]
I will just be going over the various problems with this weapons properties and not go over many of the smaller other issues. Anyway, lets get to looking at this item's properties.
- Basic Light Absorption. While this property is quite unique in concept, in actual play, this property is a nightmare a lot of the time for a bunch of reasons. First, this property does not allow light sources around you and this effect makes it impossible for friendly pcs or other creatures that don't have darkvision see anything near you, which can be potentially frustrating for the DM running NPCs and other players. Next, light sources are not measured in squares, they are measured in a radius from the light source. Regardless though, having to constantly count the area of light or even just the number of light sources around you will likely cause DM's to lose their mind and outright ban this item due to how much time it wastes and how much attention needs to be put into this one property. Finally the last small mechanical issue is that the range is not 10/30/60/90 ect. feet like most standardized ranges and 30 minutes is a duration that should not be used, see the Do's and Don'ts section of the Equipment Design Guideline.
- Solar Absorption. This property is missing how to activate it, it is quite wordy, and having a property that depends on the DM to decide what the current time is at any given point in time is not good design for an item property. This is mainly because items are enchanted to always do the same thing and because of this an item's property's should have clear and consistent effects. In addition, certain setting's time and when the sun is out in some planes differ, but since the item is designed for a specific setting that isn't too much of an issue. Besides that though, all of this boils down to the issue that having a prerequisite of having the sun out and visible to use the property is fine, but having the property's effect differ based on the time or sun position is not ok.
- Lunar Absorption. This property's main issues are that it has a bunch of non-standard effects and wording. The range for spells and effects typically have ranges in multiples of 30 feet. This property is also missing how to activate it. The DC for magic item effects should be set in stone and be static, they do not use the PC's powers. You don't hit with a DC, a creature fails a save. A magical item's properties are regained at certain times not when you finish a rest.
Besides these issues, they are a bunch of issues with the wording(randiance instead of radius or radiant, holy damage, missing commas, ect) on this item such as some of the wording issues mention in lunar absorption and the item is also missing a rarity.--Blobby383b (talk) 22:08, 6 March 2020 (MST)
