Talk:Soul Reaper, variant 2 (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
This is my first attempt at creating a class. Please feel free to suggest anything that may help class balance or adjust the class as necessary. Thanks in advance.
- Now, your " Xd6 of Bonus necrotic damage where X equals half your Reaper level" is about what rogues get with their sneak attack. The difference is that sneak attack only applies if the rogue has advantage on the attack roll (reaper gets it all the time), and the rogue doesn't get Extra Attack (reaper does at 7th level).
- Let's look at damage output. Looking at 7th level. I don't know what "Scythe (Any)" means, so let's give him a quarterstaff, and Strength 18. He deals 1d8 + 4 (base) + 1 (5th level bonus) + 3d6; twice = an average of 40 damage.
- A 7th level fighter with a greataxe and great weapon fighting style deals 1d12 (minimum 3) + 4 (base); twice = an average of 26.
- This disparity becomes greater at higher levels. Marasmusine (talk) 16:30, 29 August 2017 (MDT)
New Edits[edit]
Fixed the header problems to be more in syntax. I am not linking to the SRD because it isn't required on any other page that I have checked. If someone wants to do it, feel free. I removed the box because it added nothing to the class and was distracting as well as inane. I edited the damage from the necrotic on the weapon to be xD6 at a quarter of level as it originally was intended. Thus even at level 20 this is only 5d6 a strike. Also removed the 19th and 20th levels of Death's Scythe that added +4 and +5 as well as crit on 18-20. There is no +4 or +5 in 5e for magic weapons and increasing crit at 17 is enough. It doesn't need to be 18-20. Is it perfect? No, but it is a start at fixing it. As the original author of this variant I am attempting to maintain game balance, but still have fun.
