Red with Rage[edit]

Right now the wording for the property doesn't make sense.

  1. The saving throw type is missing. Strength seems the most likely.
  2. What is the DC?
    1. If the DC for the save itself is variable, it should say something like "Once per attack, on a hit, the defending creature must make a Strength saving throw. The DC is determined by rolling 1d20. The target is paralyzed for 6 seconds on a failed save."
    2. If the DC is to be static and you want it to apply to every attack, you could have it say something like "Once per attack, on a hit, you make expend 15 movement speed for your turn, or suffer one level of exhaustion. If you do, the defending creature must a DC 15 Strength saving throw. The target is paralyzed for 6 seconds on a failed save."
    3. If the DC is to be static and you want to make an 'amped up' attack, you could have it say something like "If you would take the attack action for the first time on your turn, you may choose to make enhance it. If you do, you make your attack, and end your turn immediately. The defending creature makes a DC 20 Strength saving throw. The target is paralyzed for 6 seconds on a failed save."

With the last option, I think it could be appropriate to force the saving throw even if you don't hit them. It feels like a really hard hit that they blocked, but they are completely taken aback by it.

I think there's merit in discussing whether or not the condition applied should be paralyzed or stunned. Paralyzed means melee attacks that hit are automatically critical. Stunned seems more balanced.

I don't know how balanced each of these is considered for a rare item, but I thought some explored options would be useful. Coaldstone (talk) 22:14, 9 November 2022 (MST)
