Talk:Sainted Human (5e Race Variant)
From D&D Wiki
Why only melee attacks? If the additional damage is coming from their light aura, why does it extend to melee weapons, but not ranged ones? If it's just because the enemy is within that radiant area, maybe they should just be surrounded by an AOE, like "whenever an evil creature enters within Xft of you, they recieve 1 radiant damage" or somesuch. Or maybe restrict it to only their unarmed strikes, if the energy is literally emenating from their skin? --Kydo (talk) 15:17, 30 August 2016 (MDT)
I tweaked it. I added flavor. I explained how the aura works. I adjusted the damage bonus to make mechanical sense, applying to UAS only to encourage a class choice of monk just as much as cleric or paladin, and moved the bump to base 3 UAS to level 10. I vetted the cantrips. I am not pleased with the inclusion of the +d4 to check or save which they allow, so I'm removing them. Remember, those are cantrips, and they have a greater benefit to the party as the party increases in size. As such, while they may work fine as a class cantrip, I do not feel that they are appropriate for a race, as a race which choses a class which can use those cantrips would now get them, PLUS other options. Giving a PC some of the best cantrips on their class spell list for free is kind of cheap. --Kydo (talk) 21:28, 13 September 2016 (MDT)
- Holy touch should apply the damage to all melee attacks so that's it's useful for everyone. The additional damage is not "coming from their light aura", it doesn't say that anywhere.
- I'm putting the cantrips back. The variant human in the PHB can pick the Magic Initiate feat at 1st level and choose the guidance cantrip. The cantrips are also not "for free", they have an opportunity cost (For example I could have chosen the PHB human variant chosen a feat instead). Marasmusine (talk) 02:52, 23 July 2017 (MDT)
