Talk:Saber (5e Equipment)

There are no 1d8 light finesse weapons, by intent. This makes this the best finesse weapon in the game with no existing equivalent. The "light" trait should be removed.

I'm not even sure if it should have the finesse property. Wikipedia describes sabres as a type of curved backsword. It also says that scimitars are a kind of sabre. Personally I would just use the scimitar stats for a sabre. Marasmusine (talk) 14:54, 24 October 2015 (MDT)
Fine, whatever, do whatever. I'm pretty much sick of arguing about weapon design, and Elaborate Weapon Design (5e Variant Rule) pretty much covers my attitude toward the subject anyways. Consider the pages I added to the weapons list abandoned. They have been for months now anyways, it's not like there's much for me to do with them any more. --Kydo (talk) 16:36, 24 October 2015 (MDT)

Honestly I'd keep the finesse, and remove the light- for balancing. I've used sabres as slashing variants of rapiers. I've fenced for a little bit, and it definitely requires dexterity to wield effectively, so definitely keep finesse.

Dual-wielding sabres, however, requires a lot of skill and practice, so as long as a character has the Dual Wielder feat, they should be able to dual wield just fine. --D'Artagnan (talk) 21:36, 27 April 2016 (MDT)

I am so ****ing sick of everyone recreating the shortsword and longsword with different names. What's the point of having nearly no mechanical variation in the arsenal? You might as well delete half the pages in the weapons list at this point- they're a waste of time to read. --Kydo (talk) 06:12, 5 May 2016 (MDT)

I would recommend changing this weapon to a "Broadsword", as a sabre is effectively a scimitar. A broadsword (of the scottish variety) is typically used for slashing just like this weapon and has a decently long, broad-ish blade. PunnyDM12 (talk) 20:01, 21 November 2018 (MST)
