Talk:Regeneration (5e Variant Rule)

Why not take a page out of some video games and regenerate by segments?

Divide your max HP by 4, every round you regain Constitution mod hit points (maybe + bonus at higher levels) until you reach the segment max?

So 40 HP, 10HP segments, CON mod +2. If you're at 23 HP, you only regenerate 2 HP every round until you're at 30HP. Rate would need to be worked out to scale, but this way hit dice aren't obsolete.Crutchcricket (talk) 11:30, 21 August 2018 (MDT)

You can do that if you want but in 5e hit point recovery usually comes with some resource expenditure (spell slot, magic item, hit die, etc).
I'm not sure what you mean about this making hit dice obsolete, since it is using hit dice. Marasmusine (talk) 14:29, 7 February 2019 (MST)
I think I was referring to the starting premise of the page "unrestricted regen would remove the need for hit dice". Although my way is also "restricting" regen, technically. And either method could be tied to a magic item, spell slot, or at most a limited use passive feature. Crutchcricket (talk) 08:34, 27 March 2019 (MDT)
