Talk:Rapid Thrust (3.5e Feat)
From D&D Wiki
Slight Confusion on wording[edit]
According to this Feat, it expresses the following:
"you can apply Weapon Finesse . . . lose any Strength bonus to damage you might normally have gained."
Later, under the Example, it states:
"Myllard the 6th level ranger (Str 12, Dex 17) . . . He still receives his +3 bonus to hit from his Weapon Finesse feat, but loses his +1 Strength damage bonus."
This implies that Myllard has gained both the Strength Modifier and the Dexterity Modifier from Weapon Finesse, yet loses the Strength Modifier when wanting to use Rapid Thrust.
The reason this is confusing is because looking under Weapon Finesse, it states:
"you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls."
Due to this there is clear confliction of rules; Weapon Finesse states that you may use your Dexterity Modifier instead of using your Strength Modifier, yet Rapid Thrust implies you get to use both Dexterity Modifier and Strength Modifier, merely that you lose the Strength Modifier.
Due to you losing the Strength Modifier during Rapid Thrust, this technically should not be a concern. However it does pose a confliction of rules and should be corrected or better worded so that players don't believe under Weapon Finesse you are allowed to use both of the Modifiers.
