Talk:Punishing (3.5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
I am seeking input on the pricing and balance of these enhancements. Are they weak, overpowered, or just right? Here is my line of thought:
Lesser Punishing Since the damage trigger requires the player to spend an immediate action, this ability can only be used if the player has not already spent a swift or immediate action this round. This limits the use to once a round.
Punishing Same action restriction as Lesser Punishing, but can now respond to ranged attacks and the damage is bumped up to the next die (average damage increases by 1).
Greater Punishing As a +3 enhancement the minimum market price for any armor bearing this enhancement would be 19,200 gp (16,000 gp for enhancements, 3,200 gp for xp) plus the base cost. Compare this to a unlimited use ring of 2nd level spells, like a ring of invisibility. The ring is priced at about 20,000 gp, and requires a standard action to use. While Greater Punishing is a free action opposed to a standard action, it does have a built in restriction that it can only be used when you have been hit by a ranged or melee attack. Also, at the appropriate player level (subjective, I know) this extra damage does not seem overwhelming, especially if you throw a challenge with resistance their way every once in a while.
