Real payoff with bonuses[edit]

Hello, not trying to be rude, but this race appears half-done. Most of the bonuses for the Poladars are written only, and they need to be turned into real D&D advantages (for example, a bonus to climbing should be written as a racial bonus to the climb skill). This races needs a lot of work, but it has the potential to turn out very well. --Blue Dragon 20:38, 2 January 2007 (MST)

Balance[edit]

To start. Do you own Frostburn? I am asking because in that book they have a polar-bear like race called the Urskan (actually a monster). The Urskan gets gets natural attacks, Natural Armor, but has a LA of +4, and this is where your differs. So, the first thing you should have in mind is how powerful you want this race (LA0 = no levels lost taking this race, LA1 = 1 level lost taking this race, etc.) So, how powerful? After that has been worked out, what cool abilities could you add within that power. For example the Elven Starsteppers (3.5e Race) has fly, and is still LA0. Many abilities are possible with a low LA, you just have to work out how you can balance them. Balancing abilities is the tricky part, and the part that can break a campaign. To balancing something compare it to the Human (bottom of the page under "Human Traits (Ex)"), it is a very balanced LA0 race. The Human is very often the "middle" race between the overpowered and the underpowered for LA0 races. Also, as a general rule, no Large sized creatures are allowed to be LA0, so right now the Poladar is LA1+. Second, you have unbalanced ability scores (4 + 2 = 6), and +6 with no minuses is not balanced. So, I would recommend either a penalty to Wis, Int, or Cha (Cha is how one interacts and comes across to other, so the minus might lie heavily on this). TODO: Balance ability scores, give some ideas of cool Polar bear related abilities, and come up with the LA you are striving for. When this is done I will help you continue to balance this... --Green Dragon 21:51, 2 January 2007 (MST)

Constructive Reworking[edit]

I've tried to assemble a playable races from the non-game-rule notes. Though, as of yet, it still needs some balance work to make it as highly playable as possible. While I don't plan on officially adopting the page (since it is complete, save for balance), I'll still be working on it. Any comments or criticism would be appreciated in this endeavor. --Ganteka 11:52, 21 October 2008 (MDT)
