Talk:Pistol Sword (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
I would like to use this weapon for a charter I am rolling, but there are no properties on the sword part of the weapon. I think the Finesse property would be good for it, as I am assuming it is most likely a rapier like weapon or could be placed on one. I also think this weapon would be a grate for a Special property, this is my idea for the Special tag. (Special: After a successful attack or stab ,sword must be piercing the target, you may use a bonus action to fire your pistol at your target. This attack must Immediately follow your first attack. You take a -5 penalty to the attack roll, but have advantage on the roll. If the attack hits do normal pistol damage. If the attack misses, your gun misfires due to blood splatter from your first attack. You must spend 2 actions to unload and clean out your pistol before it can be reloaded and fired again. Reloading follows normal reloading rules from DMG.pg. 267.). The reason I did not pose disadvantage on this Special attack is because, unlike normal ranged attacks done next to enemies, the weapon is physically stabbed into the target. This makes it very hard to miss but very likely for misfire. I think this would be fair and very particle for this weapon. I just did not want to do a big change to someone else work with out discussing it first. Hexus535 (talk)
- It's not a balanced blade, so I don't think finesse is appropriate, but I do like the idea of stab-and-fire. I won't give the shot either advantage or disadvantage - not every blade hit will represent a stab that's lined up (may be a glancing blow or damage to the more abstract definitions of "hit points") - but as you say the rationale for disadvantage for ranged attacks might not apply either.
