Rasenshuriken vs Every Damaging Jutsu[edit]

It's not so much that I dislike the rasenshuriken, but that attaching half of this subclass's unique jutsu on a single jutsu is unnecessarily restrictive, and ends up forcing this subclass's jutsu into being about Naruto the character instead of Naruto the world. Naruto could attach Shukaku's fuinjutsu to his rasengan, so why wouldn't a player be able to attach any of the other effects to any other jutsu? In a lot of the games, B adds Gyuki's ink to various jutsu, why just restrict it to a rasenshuriken? Same thing goes with Utakata's bubbles. Ultimately, like I said, it's just needlessly restrictive.--Ref3rence (talk) 20:55, 27 August 2021 (MDT)

So initial release says Con failure is an exhaustion, but the stages after that do say Con Success is exhaustion. Is this correct or a mistype?

Thanks for the catch, when I fixed Initial Release, I had assumed the wonky wording was only on that feature, and not a problem across the entire page.--Ref3rence (talk) 09:47, 2 December 2021 (MST)
  • For the releases, how does it work with other Path modes? Like cursemark, would going into initial end curse mark or would they stack or what? ``GentlestGolemn
If one tried to voluntarily activate Cursed Mark while Initial Release was active or vise-versa, nothing would happen unless you were to either end Initial Release or be 20th level.--Ref3rence (talk) 18:12, 11 December 2021 (MST)
  • Think you will ever do the two unique jutsu for zero tails? ~~ GentlestGolemn ~~(talk) 23:26, 13 March 2022 (MDT)
Probably at some point. Right now, my main focus is on the Yamanaka clan and the Akatsuki, after which I might start fleshing out the movie characters.--Ref3rence (talk) 16:25, 14 March 2022 (MDT)

so it feels a little odd that as you get stronger, the dc that you have to beat actually gets higher. Maybe instead take the mangekyou route and add 1 to the dc every success until you either fail or long rest.

While I get where you're coming from, part 1 Naruto had no problem controlling his Version 1 cloak, but a stronger part 2 Naruto couldn't control his Version 2 cloak. By the time you're 10th level, you can relatively easily hit a DC 14 Constitution saving throw if you're trying, at least within setting rules or if you multiclass from barbarian, so you can effectively use Initial Release indefinitely, which you should be able to. Meanwhile, Tailed Release has about the same difficulty Initial Release had when you first got it.--Ref3rence (talk) 21:17, 19 January 2023 (MST)

To clarify I wouldn't really say he was in control in part one just not as out of control as when he used enough chakra to get a tail. I think using the tailed cloak was when he really started struggling with control, but I see what you mean. But the dc also goes up for the ones at peace with their beast getting exhaustion which still doesn't make sense to me.--24.162.54.189 06:37, 20 January 2023 (MST)

Blue Fire Amplification Balance[edit]

I had originally written a long edit description, but figured discussing the topic here should prevent a longer edit war and be easier to read through. I'm formatting this into multiple subsections for the sake of each point of contention being able to be discussed individually.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2024 (MDT)

As far as balance within this class goes, either 2d10 damage per round for 10 chakra and investment is balanced or both this jutsu and Amaterasu need to be rebalanced, we can't rebalance one but not the other. Compared to Amaterasu, Blue Fire Amplification has nothing keeping a creature from dousing themself in water (which is trivial if you or an ally can cast Water Style jutsu) to put themself out, and its overall cost is higher by at least 3 chakra assuming you're using something like Violent Whirlwind. I could definitely see an argument to attaching a level requirement to amplification jutsu, but I think their costs genearlly achieve the same effect.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2024 (MDT)
As for its balance within this path itself, most of the other bijuu-specific jutsu are more focused on utility, such as restraining or pushing the target. If I had to choose one that was significantly more powerful than the others, it'd either be Deep-Sea Amplification or Vapor Style Amplification, with a potential minute of stun being way better overall than a minute of 2d10 damage each round unless you're by yourself, and the latter allowing for nearly as much damage (average 10 vs average 11) multiple times each round. If you're specifically worried about it out-damaging Vermillion Jutsu, a Vermillion Rasenshuriken grants an additional 42 average damage, while using it with Lightning Ball can deal more damage than Blue Fire Amplification deals on a failure without any saving throw.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2024 (MDT)
As for its balance within the lore, we can't definitively say that Matatabi is the weakest tailed beast, nor would that necessitate that its jutsu be the least destructive. Gyuki calls out Kurama on assuming the number of tails a tailed beast has is a power ranking. Additionally, the last page of Illustration Collection: Naruto (the second Naruto art book; a compilation of art Kishimoto himself made for the series), Yugito's/Matatabi's section states that "Yugito was a high-ranking kunoichi that even Killer B looked up to", and in a setting where rank and respect are generally equivalent to personal ability there's a clear conclusion to be drawn.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2024 (MDT)

Besides the point but to answer the ironic question whether we play the wiki, I do, in fact I'm currently DMing a campaign one and a half year strong in this setting, so rest assured when I edit stuff I'm also taking into consideration how it would affect a setting balance wise, and with what I've done so far, this is not too out balanced compared to 40% of this class beyond level 10. And a point I agree on with Ref3rence is that the Deep Sea Amplification is the strongest between all the Amplifications in this, in which case I've had to nerf it down to a one round stun for a PC who got this path through a consumed intestine seal, with the reasoning that getting it in that manner is not the full power of the tailed beast xD.
