Talk:Overwhelming Magic, 2nd Variant (5e Feat)
From D&D Wiki
If we take Fireball (classic example), it deals 8d6 and is an area-of-effect. So if someone was to fail the saving throw by more than 10 (which could happen to 1-2 enemies since its an AOE), you would deal 8d6 + 4d8 + 32 + 16*. The astricks is, if the modifier is also added by the extra d8s. This is assuming you're a Wizard with 18 Intelligence (so +4). The average damage of a single crit from Fireball is 94. Minimum being 60 and maximum being 128.
I personally think saving throw spells shouldn't be able to critically hit. The benefit to them already is that they target saving throws rather than AC which I think is enough. --Angelican Elf Master (talk) 06:50, 9 September 2023 (MDT)
