Talk:OC Stands (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Adaption[edit]
Greetings, all. At some point, I want to adapt these Stands into creature blocks (will most likely happen before I start part 8 (maybe 7 if y'all act quickly) Stand users). If you have any particular name you would prefer the user of a Stand you have created to have, as well as a general design (most preferably posted here as a link to a wikia with a character generally similar in aesthetic since those are the easiest to lift) and a general backstory, please add such below. I have included an example (though it was mostly to remind myself and to move something out of my notes) --Ref3rence (talk) 22:31, 11 November 2020 (MST)
- Drink with the Living Dead: Billy Ray, [[1]]. Cowboy outlaw stand user who escaped execution all but once, revived as a zombie.
Seventh Heaven[edit]
Recently, several edits have been made to the Seventh Heaven archetype that have been undone, allow me to justify them further here. As a baseline, while I understand that this class is generally unbalanced, that is supposed to be due to adapting such wild and absurd abilities into 5e, not arbitrary big numbers, which is why most Stands just deal 1d4 + Strength/Dexterity bludgeoning damage with their unarmed strikes.
- AC: every other Stand has an AC of 10 + Stand ability modifier + user ability modifier, which equals out to roughly 10 + (1-10) + (1-5), averaging out to 17, with a max of 25. With the earlier edit's decision of 10 + Stand mod + Stand mod (10 + (1-10) + (1-10)), the average shoots up to 20, with a maximum of 30. AC increases of any value should not be taken lightly, much less to this extent.
- Unarmed die: I can accept making this Stand deal force damage, maybe it uses portals to attack or something. I can get behind changing its base to 2d4 due to how non-damage oriented its ability is. What I can't justify is arbitrary unarmed die increases. This Stand's unarmed die scales (admittedly falling slightly behind, but not by much) with things like Star Platinum's Fists of Fury. The big difference here though is that FoF can only be used in initiative and costs spirit points to benefit from, while this is just a permanent damage increase. It doesn't benefit the archetype in any way either, as most of its features are based around battlefield control/support/movement options rather than outright damage, something we could use a lot more archetypes of.
- Nullification action: This is a minor one, but making changing nullification points a free action removes any sort of thought that would have to be put into the feature, and makes Touched by the Heavens make 0 sense as a feature.
I hope you will take these into consideration before making such edits again.-Ref3rence (talk) 08:50, 22 October 2020 (MDT)
- I see your complaints and the revision. The portion about understand the damage and that is correct that should have been revised and has been set back. The ac calculations has one big flaw with at least how it is typed out. You went in depth with it being at 10. It was at 5+stands strength +your charisma. the max you could get would be less the the average for your first descision. Now i admit the higher the ac the harder it is to balance around but there is also a thing of having the ac to low. I feel that it should be at best now 10+Stand's Strength Modifier+ users Charisma modifier. Also i do not know if it is a typo but you start at lvl 3 with 4 points and then your maximum at lvl 5 becomes 4 and when you get to lvl 7 it is 6. Just something to think about
