Technically, wouldn't any PC adventurer with the Soldier background be a mercenary? I don't get it. --Kydo (talk) 03:05, 17 February 2016 (MST)

A soldier could be a professional soldier, or a warrior fighting for a cause other than payment. More to the point, isn't most of what adventurers do anyway considered mercenary work? (i.e. payment for quests) Marasmusine (talk) 08:19, 17 February 2016 (MST)
Sort of. I always thought "mercenary" referred exclusively a specific sort of traitor who either abandoned or was discharged from a military, but continued to work as a soldier for other nations for money. --Kydo (talk) 08:27, 17 February 2016 (MST)

Feature[edit]

Does the feature have an effect of is it just bonus info?

It does, sort of. It is clearly an attempt at the Working a Profession downtime activity interaction we see in the Guild Artisan background, just very poorly worded. --Kydo (talk) 09:38, 22 December 2016 (MST)
maybe have it so bounty hunting, killing quests are easier to obtain and pay better? Bloodreaper54 (talk) 10:02, 22 December 2016 (MST)
That's a good bit of flavor a DM could use to give quests. Maybe allow them to sustain a modest lifestyle while working a profession as a hired sword? --Kydo (talk) 18:09, 22 December 2016 (MST)
Possibly even a tiny char boost. And Im a ablib dm soni could see this working as a way to integrate homebrew/ablib quest to premade book stories.
