Talk:Max Damage Rogue Edition (5e Optimized Character Build)

Using this build and having a blas with it. I do have a quick question. Instead of taking the Magic Initiate feat, wouldn't it be better to do a one level dip into warlock?Seems like this would be pretty much the same except now you can cast hex once per short rest instead of long rest. You do miss out on stroke of luck at level 20, but that seems like a fair trade off. Am I missing something?

No, you can get the same effect, however this build is just meant for Rogues and doesn't account for multiclassing. If you want to then go ahead, have fun.--Vogril The Revenant (talk) 05:09, 9 May 2019 (MDT)

Because the goblin is Small, you have disadvantage on attack rolls made with heavy weapons, such as the heavy crossbow. Sure, advantage cancels it out, but you might consider using a light crossbow instead. For a tad less damage, you get a weapon the rogue is already proficient in (so you can use the feat for something else) and isn't heavy to boot. Of course, you also lose a bit of range and the short range of the light crossbow is 80 feet, less than the 90-foot range of the hex spell. SirSprinkles (talk) 05:41, 9 May 2019 (MDT)

You do know that any source of disadvantage makes sneak attack not possible, even if a source of advantage is gained as well? "You don't need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn't incapacitated, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll." So, a small race can never get sneak attack with a heavy weapon.

I switched the heavy crossbow to a light crossbow, and replaced weapon master with the piercer feat, which makes the damage slightly better than it was with the heavy crossbow. (2d10 vs 3d8)
