Talk:Inchling (5e Race)

Sorry about my confusion on the edit, it's past 1 a.m. from where I am and I'm suffering from some sleep deprivation. However, I wanted to say this:

  • Size. From 5e SRD, the "Size" table shows that the smallest size a creature could get is Tiny. Unlike 3.5e, this is the smallest size a creature could get, otherwise you would need a homebrew rule for size smaller than this. Furthermore, if you're going to keep it this way, I suggest you can consult the Tiny Player Characters (5e Variant Rule) page for rules you might be able to implement. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 10:01, 22 July 2017 (MDT)
The point is the race is so small that even if you were to categorize it as Tiny, it still would have trouble reaching creatures, holding components, and doing other basic things because the race is a maximum of 3 inches tall. I am pretty sure, that for a race this small, you would need to use the 5e variant rule you mentioned, and even then the race still has most of the problems I mentioned.--Blobby383b (talk) 10:34, 22 July 2017 (MDT)
One solution is to make a custom class for the race, as the PHB classes assume the race is Medium or Small. I usually find the monk the best class to ask "would the race work", and it's a bit unbelievable (even in a fantasy context) that a 3 inch guy can deflect and throw back arrows, or deal 1d10 unarmed damage. This race just seems to be a generic human that seems to only be incredibly small, so what class would you even create for an incredible small humanoid creature? It may be interesting, but I believe the class created would probably be fairly weak or hard to balance and very hard to fill out.--Blobby383b (talk) 11:42, 14 August 2017 (MDT)
Yeah, I don't know what to put in such a class either. By the way, I made Quarterling (5e Subrace) a while ago, so I don't think there's anything wrong with Tiny size itself: it has benefits and detriments. But while I can just about envisage a 2-ft tall creature performing class features, I struggle with a 3-inch creature. But there's no mechanical issue. Marasmusine (talk) 02:14, 15 August 2017 (MDT)
The only way I can envision a race this small having class features would probably be a composite magic race(pixie or something akin to it). Also, I agree, Tiny sized races are fine, with some having unique movement(spider climb, fly, jump, climb) mechanics to make up for their size. But, then what should we do about this race's size(3 in) as it is still an issue? I am not sure what can be done because it seems like a regular humanoid race that is this small will not work in D&D.--Blobby383b (talk) 03:02, 15 August 2017 (MDT)
