Talk:Half-Minotaur (5e Race)

I don't understand why they have proficiency in axes. Dwarves and elves have weapon proficiencies because of their respective cultures, but half minotaurs are "shunned by both their Human and Minotaur Counterparts" Marasmusine (talk) 14:07, 7 October 2014 (MDT)

Darkvision range[edit]

Darkvision is almost always out to 60 feet. The trait description says 60 feet, but the trait "name" says it goes out to 30. Which is intended? —Proton[talk] 17:09, 7 October 2014 (MDT)

Labyrinthine Recall[edit]

The Labyrinthine Recall must allow you to find your way inside a maze, Because the Minotaur's have either advantage inside mazes or find their way through it. Azernath (talk) 11:32, 17 January 2015 (MST)

The current wording effectively gives them an advantage in not getting lost in a maze whilst not destroying any suspense a DM might be trying to achieve in her dungeon design. Marasmusine (talk) 11:40, 17 January 2015 (MST)
So what if we said they get proficient bonus on Perception or Investigation rolls in mazes or increase to the passive Perception in dungoens. Azernath (talk) 12:44, 17 January 2015 (MST)
It could be argued that the DM shouldn't put a minotaur in a maze and expect them to get lost. Then again, these are only half-breeds, so I reckon advantage is reasonable. It could instead double certain proficiency bonuses. —Proton[talk] 12:54, 17 January 2015 (MST)
Exactly, because i specifically remember that Minotaur's can get out of spells that put them in mazes, so why not Half-Minotaur's? Azernath (talk) 18:57, 17 January 2015 (MST)
My argument is that "maze" has a broad definition. A player might argue that any dungeon they are placed in qualifies as a maze (or forest paths, or city streets, etc) - while "path you have travelled" is a much tighter definition. Based on your suggestion you could go for something like "When indoors and faced with branching paths, you can make a DC 10 Perception check to intuit which path leads to the exit or entrance." (very rough wording, sorry, my daughter is pestering me.) Marasmusine (talk) 02:19, 18 January 2015 (MST)
The player can argue all they like. At the end of the day, it's the DM's discretion, and the flavor is understood. Though admittedly my inner perfectionist likes the blurb you tossed up. —Proton[talk] 08:37, 18 January 2015 (MST)
I was trying to identify exactly what it means to "succeed in a maze"! Marasmusine (talk) 09:18, 18 January 2015 (MST)
I found this on the wiki and i think it fit the description http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Maze Azernath (talk) 20:01, 19 January 2015 (MST)
