This race has a score of 5.5-6 according to the Musicus Meter race guidelines. With this metric, first-party races' scores range from 4.5 to 8. This is a guideline, not a rule, and it's important to use your own judgment alongside this scoring.
This scoring may be the groundwork for a focused {{needsbalance}} usage. A contributor to this page may request a detailed breakdown of this page's balance. Without this information, {{needsbalance}} may then be removed. This meter cannot be the sole basis for a needsbalance template, but may be included as an accessory to a wider discussion of a race's balance.
This template should only be placed on a race's talk page. If this template is not placed on the talk page, please move it.

I don't have an awful lot to say about this race for the time being. Just as a designer's note, the main two points of inspiration for this race are the Taino culture and the hylocerea genus of cacti, both of which are from the Caribbeans (in fact, the name of the race is a bastardization of "hylocerea" based off of how I presume it would be phonetically pronounced in the Taino language). I want to make it clear that as somebody with no Taino ancestry, I'm not trying to steal their heritage or make light of it in any way - I just thought it was an interesting culture and wanted to incorporate it into a piece of fiction.

Just an aside, we actually have a lot of loanwords from the now extinct Taino language, words like hurricane, hammock, barbecue, and iguana, and place names like Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Bimini. I'd encourage everyone to read up on Taino history. It's an absolute travesty the way that Columbus and the likes of him treated them, and a shame that their culture does not currently flourish as it once did.
