Do we really need a template that merely reduces the size of a creature one step? Marasmusine (talk) 05:40, 31 July 2016 (MDT)

Talk:Genetic Dwarf[edit]

As I understand it, there isn't one for 3.5, unless one is willing to allow the Child template from D20Modern. However, the roleplay aspect for that template doesn't allow for character builds based on someone who was born a dwarf of their race, like Tyrion Lannister. This one does. It's a simple, cheap, and, in my opinion well balanced method of reducing size for a character. I also took care to consider what would happen if it were applied to small races such as a halfling, thus the +1LA for any new size category lower than "Small" Size.

Sometimes, a template that doesn't do much is more help than one that does a great deal. Something like this isn't likely to be instantly rejected by a DM, because the -8strength penalty that comes from dropping a Giant down to a medium size is a good trade off. I intended it to not be game breaking.

Of course, I'd be happy to consider any other changes that makes it more balanced if you like, or explains the purpose more clearly.
