Talk:Gambler (3.5e Class)

Changes to this class
Feel free to make suggestions or spelling/grammer changes. please Discuss any actual changes to the class with me first. I would be happy to make it more balanced or clarify things, but it was created with help from another person, and I would like to involve them. Thanks Kazesama 12:11, 28 May 2008 (MDT)
- It might help if you were to post descriptions of the class's abilities for us to read.
- hehe, yeah sorry, i've been trying to on that. just school and preparing for our next campaign day kinda overloaded me. sorry. i'm getting to that now. Kazesama 23:24, 28 May 2008 (MDT)
- Ok, everything i can think of is done except for the tables for drawing cards with percentile dice, and the table for "Crap Shoot" and the Table for the effect of each card. these are all things my buddy has, so i'll hopefully post them by the start of next week. Kazesama 00:47, 29 May 2008 (MDT)
- Are you still going upload the card table and the Crap Shoot table? I would love to play this class if so.
- I'd like to see something more focused on using Bluff, Sense Motive, and luck manipulation in combat, and less focused on being Gambit.
Adopting the class
Kazesama, I'd like to adopt this class. It hasn't seen any work since 2008, so I'm going to get started soon. If you plan to finish it, let me know. If you just want to use the current version as a reference, but don't want to finish it, here is a link: http://www.dandwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Gambler_(3.5e_Class)&oldid=381303. --Aarnott 13:58, 16 July 2009 (MDT)
- Well, I'm basically done the class now. It isn't much like what you had at all, but I think that the changes have taken it in a much better direction. --Aarnott 08:14, 21 July 2009 (MDT)
Review
I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions to make this class better. I feel like it isn't focused enough in what it does (though that may not be a bad thing for a base class). I also probably need something for level 19. --Aarnott 08:30, 21 July 2009 (MDT)
- I'm testing out the class in a campaign and found a few things that could use some tweaking. A couple things that the class doesn't really do is utilize the Profession: Gambling skill and Luck rerolls. I think both of them can be worked into the class a bit more. For example, set a DC on the Reload abilities based on the number of cards missing from the deck and do a Gambling check to determine success. I feel that some class features could be replaced with ones that grant and/or utilize luck rerolls. You already grant bonus luck feats, why not come up with something for the class itself. IE, using a luck reroll to discard a card drawn for a class ability and draw a replacement keeping the new result. Also, possibly making the dice bomb and other dice based abilities have a cooldown (shared between abilities, these are some hot dice!) like a breath weapon (1d4+1 rounds). As I play with it, we're tweaking things here and there between sessions to make it a bit more balanced. Nam-Ereh-Won
- I find some of abilities are currently too spam-able. I think that there should either be a cooldown period for the Flashy Shuffle or a card cost (like with Card Swirl). I was going to talk about Crap Shoot and some of the spells on their being a little powerful to be used constantly, but other classes get them at lower levels (so no problems there). Hot Streak should come earlier. The symbols don't seem to fit with the class, but (sorry for the pun) trap cards are a good idea. By which I mean, setting down cards that have random effects ranging from damage to healing spells as traps. I think there should be references to different card games and dice games. Like Poker Hands that have effects (with stronger hands having better or stronger effects). -Dr. Seymour 19:03, 10 October 2011 (MDT)
