Talk:Frost-touched Bloodline (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Frostborn: Adding Vulnerability to fire damage makes this archetype incredibly weak, so I replaced it with a filler effect of ignoring difficult terrain caused by ice. Any edits to change that effect to something more relevant, but not powerful, are welcome. Added elemental bane in place of conjure minor elementals (There are no minor ice elementals that I can find) Strong spell, should balance the class out some more. Also considering adding "Melf's minute meteors" and allowing them to do cold damage rather than fire damage" going to leave that out, for that spell would be really strong with this class, and so the justification of "there are not many good ice spells so this class should be stronger" would be null.
Heart of Frost: Saying "All hostile creatures within 15 feet are effected" is bound to cause confusion. I changed it so that you could choose which creatures it effects with a slight limitation of Cha. Modifier + 2.
Ice Form: Added the ability to cast "Investiture of Ice" for free once per day. Just learning the spell would be along the lines of adding it to the Frostborn spell list, which I find far too weak for a level 14 ability, although the temporary hitpoints are nice, it doesn't quite justify still needing to use a level 6 spell slot to cast the spell, so a slight buff in being able to cast this ability for free once per long rest should do the trick. Perhaps instead of temporary hitpoints the spell could place you under the effects of stoneskin or something similar. or maybe even something minor on top of temp HP like a free misty step bonus action while the spell is active, or Fly. The possibilities are endless, but I like the direction of investiture of ice being your sort of "Signature Spell" considering there aren't many other strong-ish ice based spells.
Empowered Cold: This ability is fairly weak and flavorless, I'd love to see a completely new and relevant ability in it's place, but temporarily, I decided to buff it to be able to re-roll 1s on your damage die on cold based spells.
Compare this Origin to the Draconic bloodline, Draconic bloodline having A. Better features, and B. More versatility and I think that you will find that it was quite weak in comparison before these changes, I do not claim that these changes are perfect, but I believe they are on the right track.
Perhaps if there was access to better cold based spells this origin would be great! But before these changes a fire based (Or ice based for that matter) Draconic sorcerer far outclassed this origin. This origin also lacks a use of sorcery points, which is atypical, but is OK in my opinion.
