Talk:Fearmonger Beast (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Looking at the Creature[edit]
I will be taking a look at this creature and commenting on what needs to be fixed among other issues I spot.
- The hit point calculation seems to be incorrect, but the correct hit die (d12) is being used. 13d12 hit dice would give the creature 175 hit points because (13d12 is 84 + 91(13(hit dice #)*7(con mod)) = 175)
- What type of speed a creature has is listed before the speed itself, see ancient red dragon.
- A creature that has 30 str should be unrivaled and having any stat maxed out is usually reserved for creatures of legend with high cr (ancient dragons, tarrasque, ect.). A str score of 20~24 would be much more appropriate.
- A cr 7 creature's proficiency bonus is +3 so all things that it is proficient in would add an ability score modifier + its proficiency bonus. For example, if the creature's str score was 22, its str modifier would be 6, so the creature would have +9 to its str saving throws.
- Passive Perception is 10 + the creature's wis modifier + the creature's proficiency bonus if it has proficiency in the Perception skill. In this case, the creature's passive perception is 10.
- The actions are worded strangely and in general could use some cleaning up. For example this is how the Roar action should be worded, "The fearmonger roars. All creatures within 15 foot of the creature must make a DC X Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the start of the fearmonger's next turn."
- The DC of all the attacks as well as the to hit number of the claw attack are incorrectly calculated. Fear effects' DC are usually 8 + the creature's Charisma mod + the creature's proficiency bonus(+3) as Charisma represents the aura of the creature. The slam DC should be 8 + the creature's str modifier + the creature's proficiency bonus while the claw attack should either use the creature's str or dex modifier to calculate its to hit number and the DC of the push effect.
- The flap reaction really isn't powerful enough to limit, so it should be fine to just allow the creature to use this reaction whenever it wants to. In addition to that, 5e avoids using the per long/short rest wording.
- Overall, I would be a good idea to check out how other creatures on the wiki are formatted and worded. In addition, I highly recommend you look over to look over the section in the MM on creating monsters(pp 273) as it explains many of the nuances of creating a monster.
- Once the creature is fixed up, the numbers on the creature's AC, hit points, and damage output can then be adjusted to better fit a CR 7 creature.--Blobby383b (talk) 13:24, 8 November 2019 (MST)
- And you see? This is why I ask for help. Thank you so much, Blobby, but right now, I don't exactly know how to fix some of those things, so if you could do it, that'd be awesome. Flamestarter (talk) 06:14, 9 November 2019 (MST)Flamestarter
