Talk:Falconer, Variant (5e Class)

Balancing Help Appreciated![edit]
Hey, so this class is a labor of love, and it is way overpowered. If anyone has some tips to balance certain elements without taking away TOO much flavor, send them my way!
I am wanting to replace the Extra Attack features with something else, but I'm not sure what. If anyone has an idea on that front, please add them below this message! Casual Kimi (talk) 18:32, 24 April 2024 (MDT)
Why This Variant?[edit]
I found the original Falconer page (https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Falconer_(5e_Class)#Falconer) a few months ago and really liked the idea of it. However, I thought it was a tad restrictive. Clearly ranged weapons were the central idea, almost everything to do with the player character revolved around it. Meanwhile, a lot of the bird features felt disconnected from the PC. And, worst of all, there was no room for subclasses. Everything was already on the table, there was almost no room for variety you could get through a subclass.
Hopefully I did not go too far in the other direction. I changed a few core features into optional features, trying to make it so that there were not too many features that were never used. I also removed a ton of restrictions, and tried to put power scaling on a few things. What I'm hoping is that there will be enough wiggle room for people to make a ton of different versions of the Falconer. I think it might be somewhat fair to say I made a Fighter who owns a bird. :P
The versatility goes to the moon and back with the subclasses. I think tying the subclass to the bird rather than the PC opens up the option to swap out skills without swapping out characters. I know - trust me, I know - how attached players can get to their pets, but they at least have the option to choose a bird that fits a certain setting better. I actually have a ton more subclasses penciled in, but they aren't as well polished as the five I have listed. Hopefully a few more revisions are all they need!
If anyone has any questions about why I did this or that, or have any suggestions on how to improve something, let me know!
