Calculating CR[edit]

  • Hit points: 21 hp * 2 (damage immunity) = 42 (CR 1/4)
  • AC is 18. This is a difference of 5 from the expected AC. We adjust the DCR up by (5÷2) = 1 (CR 2.5)
  • Defensive Challenge Rating: (CR 3)
  • Best average damage for one round is 17 (with grappling a creature) average over three rounds. (17 + 17 + 17) ÷ 3 = (17). This gives us an OCR of 5 and an expected attack bonus of +3.
  • The actual attack bonus is +3. No difference.
  • Offensive Challenge Rating: (CR 5)
  • Final CR is (11+5)÷2 = (8)

The effective HP is 84, since Damage Transfer doubles the effective HP (CR 1)
I've adjusted the AC to 16, since I think a chain would be less able to deflect blows than armor (18) or a sword (17); but I also gave it piercing resistance. (CR + 1)
DCR is therefore 2.
I'm rewriting the chain's attack so it's less like the rug of smothering.
Average damage is 10 plus one-third its hit points (7, from damage transfer) = 17. The OCR for this is 2 (not 5!).
The final CR is 2. Marasmusine (talk) 02:19, 31 August 2015 (MDT)
