Talk:Elite Mercenary (5e Subclass)

This is a first try at homebrew. I'm playing a two handed weapon user and felt the options as far as classes for this style of play were sort of limited, even in the homebrew realm. I came up with the features before the type and then kept refining. I feel like this might be super simple, but I was trying to keep it similar in simplicity to the Champion. Two archetype features of "increased critical", however, just felt mind-numbing. I hope this is an improvement and that it is not overpowered OR underpowered.

I'm doing a quick rewrite to improve the terminology (things like "non-ranged melee attack"? and "health"). I've added a clause in Survivor that only lets them regain hit points if they aren't incapacitated, otherwise you can't actually kill them (except through instant death effects). It still doesn't feel right, it is as strong as magical or troll-like regeneration, but this isn't a magical archetype. Marasmusine (talk) 02:36, 20 September 2015 (MDT)
I'm not sure if this is the place to respond to this. I am inexperienced in terminology, admittedly. The Survivor clause addition is what it is for the Champion archetype already and that is in there, I left it out for some reason, my mistake. And the strong regeneration is the standard Level 18 archetype feature for the Champion if you are playing a Fighter. I didn't realize it was so good, but I liked the Champion and that feature so I kept it. --Azeotrope (talk) 10:00, 20 September 2015 (MDT)
Thanks, I see it now, I guess it must be okay then :) We change the wording to be the same as in the PHB, or leave it in the incapacitated clause. Marasmusine (talk) 11:49, 20 September 2015 (MDT)
I also have a variation that would be based around the Halberd weapon. I wanted to expand more for a player who was using that type of weapon specifically because it's sort of unique. Would a Halberdier fit better as a fighter Archetype or would it have to be it's own class if I base it around that weapon? --Azeotrope (talk) 12:49, 20 September 2015 (MDT)
