Talk:Drizonym's Spectral Dagger (5e Spell)

Leif, I would recommend you take a look at the 5e Spell Design Guidelines for help balancing spells. As it is, this spell is roughly equivalent to a 5th-level spell. Familiarizing yourself with the guidelines will go a long way toward helping you homebrew constructively.

That being said, this spell in its current form doesn't have much by way of identity. It began as a worse Magic Missile, then it gained a minuscule amount of damage and a massive range increase, then a massive overcorrecting damage boost, but none of that has made it thematic or flavorful. I briefly played with the idea of allowing it to summon a spectral dagger that one could use as a weapon, but then it becomes a Greenflame Blade clone. In the absence of a unique identity, and with no clear way to rectify that, I move that the page be deleted. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 11:22, 29 November 2021 (MST)

In response to your comment, I have changed this spell from an overpowered and long ranged magic missile to a long ranged attack that deals more damage the higher your dexterity score is (Very rare for spells, but this means that it will deal 20 damage maximum at 2nd level with the highest dexterity score possible Leíf (talk) 12:49, 29 November 2021 (MST)
