Talk:Dilettente Fighter (5e Feat)
From D&D Wiki
Like this simply because it gives some variety to magic users. I would maybe add that this can be re-taken multiple times at specific levels (to a maximum of 4), adding one attack each time.
This seems... bad. First, it should be capped to two and not stack beyond there (there's a reason Fighter is the only class with 4 attacks, every other martial needs their special tricks just to keep up with boring ol' Champion), since otherwise it's going to be super-abusable (especially by Fighters). Second, it needs a prerequisite; I'd suggest either "13 Str or Dex", or possibly proficiency with a weapon (with the feat being tied to that weapon alone). Apart from that, it's an interesting take, allowing you to give up on customisation options to get more raw power, but it seems... kinda bad for anyone except barbs (and maybe rogues & warlocks). --173.237.101.134 22:14, 21 May 2019 (MDT)
- Okay, I've rewritten it. Things I considered:
- A feat can potentially be taken at 1st level. As a class feature, Extra Attack at the earliest occurs at the first "damage bump" at 5th level. So this feat should not allow consistent extra attacks. I have limited it to once between rests (similar to the martial adept's superiority die).
- It should not stack with a class's Extra Attack. I have worded it specifically to say "twice instead of once". This way we do not need the clumsy prerequisite. It is now emergent that it is more useful for classes that do not normally have Extra Attack - other classes could take it if they really wanted to get access to it before they would normally gain it.
- I renamed it to "dilettante fighter" so that it fits naming standards better, and to suggest that the PC is a dabbler in the fighting arts. Marasmusine (talk) 06:23, 17 March 2020 (MDT)
