Talk:Dexterity Modifier Replacement Options (5e Variant Rule)

How do you represent someone being harder to hit because they are nimble?

I take it this doesn't override class features. So Unarmored Defense still adds Dexterity; and if a Monk uses a finesse weapon with martial arts, they can still use their Dexterity for damage. Marasmusine (talk) 03:20, 10 September 2017 (MDT)

I assume light armor still gets the Dex bonus, but I think unarmored still should. With medium armor, I guess it reflects it being too heavy to dodge in, but light enough that your natural hardiness is effective.
As well, it's just a game, and this rule tries to balance it. You could also ask why Intelligence doesn't increase AC from being smart enough to predict your opponent, or why Charisma doesn't increase AC from being deceptive enough to manipulate your opponent into striking where you want, etc. I hope you see my point?--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 10:16, 10 September 2017 (MDT)
Edit: The Constitution unarmored AC could be inspired by boxing, where it's common to roll with the punches, or even the idea that no matter how nimble you are, a high Constitution gives you the energy to dodge attacks (though I'd argue the Con bonus to HP does the same thing).--GamerAim Chatmod.png (talk) 10:31, 10 September 2017 (MDT)
Well I don't buy it, but that's the fun thing about variant rules :) They certainly get a lot more leeway than other areas of the wiki. Marasmusine (talk) 11:58, 10 September 2017 (MDT)
