Talk:Desert Gnome (5e Subrace)
You do realize gnomes have disadvantage on attack rolls with longbows, right? Longbows are heavy weapons (p147, p149), and gnomes are small (p37). You might want to either change that to shortbows or add in that they can use longbows without disadvantage (which would be pretty cool). 108.251.252.87 12:17, 27 November 2015 (MST)
- I completely forgot that longbows were heavy. I did add in that they can use longbows without disadvantage, because I agree, that is pretty cool.
- Longbows are 5 or 6 feet tall (they're supposed to be the same height as the wielder). Gnomes are 3 to 4 feet tall. How do they wield it. Marasmusine (talk) 07:19, 28 November 2015 (MST)

- Welp, I can't argue with that. I gave it proficiency with the shortbow, scimitar, and leather armour to make up for not using the long bow. I thought this stuff was pretty good, especially for a wizard, but not necessarily OP. If you have any ideas please share.
Would it be reasonable to suggest removing darkvision and maybe adding something else for balancing purposes. (Maybe a 5 foot speed increase). Reasoning the desert is bright and gnomes living there would lose their darkvision if they had been there for a long time. But and increase in speed (well the desert sands are hot). Or do desert gnomes live in burrows sleeping in the day and getting up at night? Thanks, --WinglessDwarf (talk) 05:46, 11 March 2016 (MST)
Longbow could be used by gnomes (even though they are extremely large). Maybe they could use them holding them sideways, like Legolas does occasionally in lord of the rings. However the problem then wouldn't be using them but carrying them around (so maybe a special weapon: a foldable longbow). This could be an interesting weapon allowing profient small races to use a longbow like weapon. (It should he noted that this should not be exactly the same as a lonbow, that is slightly worde than a longbow but better than a shortbow. Also because the gnome must use it sideways there must be sufficient space for him to do so.
I would also like to know more about there lifestyle. --WinglessDwarf (talk) 06:02, 11 March 2016 (MST)
