Talk:Dart of Shadows (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
I believe we've been over this with the Kunai (5e Equipment) on the discord server, but the idea of a throwable item with a ridiculously long rope attached to it is utterly ridiculous. You'd be carrying 50 feet of rope that just happened to have a dart tied to it. The rope would weigh the dart down in flight, and you'd never be able to yank it back and catch it in a fluid motion, ready to be thrown again. If you want this idea done well, you're looking for a Rope Dart (5e Equipment), which is not a throwing dart, but a dart-shaped weight attached to a short length of rope or chain. It is a melee weapon, not a throwing weapon, it just happens to have a very long reach.
I honestly don't know why you wouldn't simply state that you can command the dart to return to your hand magically. This is a magical item, and so it would not go amiss. Allowing the item to just yeet itself back into your hand is genuinely much more logical than tying a rope to it, of all things. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 16:54, 1 December 2020 (MST)
- Yep, you are right a lot of things were wrong with this weapon like the rope part and the messy properties that scaled based on your level. I hope the rework/rewrite fixes these issues though. Either way, thanks for the heads up on this weapon.--Blobby383b (talk) 17:32, 1 December 2020 (MST)
- NP, Blobby. You actually got to it just before I did, and I'd say you did it better than I would've. There are a few spelling errors, probably autocorrect messing with you. I'll clean them up. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 17:35, 1 December 2020 (MST)
