Talk:Dagger Master (5e Feat)
From D&D Wiki
This currently seems fairly useless compared to other feats out there. I think the damage die increase should be to a d8 or 2d4 if it's conditional. If it's just an increase to a d6, it should probably always be a d6. And while I like the idea that daggers are light and maneuverable, I see little purpose in moving 5 feet after an opportunity attack. Anyone have a good example?Carcabob (talk) 18:01, 7 November 2016 (MST)
- I tried to match the power level of the Unearthed Arcana weapon master feats. +1 on attack rolls and some small bonuses. I don't want to underestimate the player's ability to gain advantage (especially if they're using the optional flanking rule) which is why it's one die increase. I don't know what I was thinking with the movement. An OA might occur when an enemy is trying to get past the player, the bonus move might help hinder its path; if the enemy is trying to flee, it might help pursuit movement enough to get in an attack.
- I'm happy for you to change or remove those bonuses for something else as long as its in the spirit of the UA weapon master feats. Marasmusine (talk) 02:06, 8 November 2016 (MST)
- Well, if the enemy triggered an opportunity attack, they're probably already past you, and you can no longer make an opportunity attack since you've used your reaction. As for the advantage thing, feats shouldn't really be based around optional rules. An increase from d4 to d6 is an average of +1 damage. Getting +1 attack rolls and sometimes damage with only a dagger is not a very appealing option compared to a +2 Dexterity score improvement. I would much rather get +1 AC, +1 attack rolls, and +1 damage always. I think the best thing we can do here is consolidate with the Dagger Expert feat.
- Here's my proposition:
- You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls you make with a dagger.
- If you have advantage on an attack roll made with a dagger, its damage dice increases from d4 to d6. (This benefit has no effect if another feature has already improved the weapon's die.)
- When you use use a bonus action to make an attack with a dagger using two-weapon fighting, you can make two attacks with the dagger, instead of one.
- You have advantage on any Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) checks to conceal a dagger on your person.
