Talk:Daemonfey (4e Race)
This page is currently a work in progress. Over the next day or two i will finish writing the page and will ask for opinions as to anything that can be removed, improved, altered or added. Thanks
- Hope it's okay, but I made one minor alteration: 4e demons have the "elemental" origin (there isn't an "abyssal" origin). I look forward to giving you some feedback once you're finished. Marasmusine 00:44, 23 April 2012 (MDT)
All done. Thanks Marasmusine for that edit. I should've remembered that but it was late so my head decided to place whatever fit. If you notice anything else please feel free to go over it and lemme know. I'm open to suggestions and just trying to make a race people will enjoy and hopefully my DM/stepfather will give an OK to.--Vaerlas 16:15, 23 April 2012 (MDT)
Hey marasmusine if you look at the Suppress Heritage power it'll say Trigger:{{{trigger}}} any clue if theres a way to remove that? i dont have it written in the code for it and yet its still there. Is it due to the fact that the power is a free action? I figured the action for it fit better as free because its more for Role Playing purposes and the whole "through sheer will" but perhaps it has to be a minor action? Thanks--Vaerlas 16:31, 23 April 2012 (MDT)
- Yeah, all free actions have a trigger. I suggest making this a trait instead: "Suppress Heritage: You gain a +5 racial bonus to Bluff checks made to pass as a member of the race of your fey heritage." Marasmusine 02:14, 24 April 2012 (MDT)
That or I turn it into a minor action similar to body of the wolf. Make it a legitimate polymorph as opposed to an illusory cover of your race.--Vaerlas 09:56, 24 April 2012 (MDT)
I think the Fort bonus is acceptable since the player can end up with a Dex/Int combo (and therefore a bonus to only their Reflex). But be aware that races normally only have one defensive trait, and a daemonfey might end up with two if they also pick fire resistance. That's not a gamebreaker though. I still think that Suppress Heritage is cumbersome as a power rather than a trait, but it's your call. I'm a bit confused as to whether someone needs to make a bluff check or an arcana check though. Later today I'm hoping to give you some feedback on formatting and the racial powers. Marasmusine 02:58, 25 April 2012 (MDT)
I was confused about the check too. For changelings it's a insight check vs a bluff check. I just figured that since its a true polymorph and that it's half their heritage that arcana vs bluff works better because itd be similar to a spell of true sight or noticing the magics of the polymorph. And it is a bit cumbersome but it's more of a RP power so I liked the total physical change rather than a constant buff. But it may work out better in practice as a trait. I'm gonna try to run a bladesinger a ranger or an assassin Daemonfey this weekend with my family. The DM passed it as a race but I wanna play test to check to see if anything is broken. I'll post how it goes. -Vaerlas
My next concern is that it's possible to have two encounter powers. Whilst I like the mix-and-match heritage, I suggest doing something like the Drow's Lolthtouched: the player might have several heritage powers but can only use one per encounter. The powers themselves are fine (being similar to existing powers) except the attack and hit information is missing from Firepulse. Marasmusine 13:42, 25 April 2012 (MDT)
That's a valid point. I'll add something claiming that invoking the powers of your daemonic heritage too often can be dangerous or something along those lines later today. I can't type the code from my iPhone. Perhaps I'll create some feats while I'm at it. Like one similar to master of fire and darkness allowing you to use both powers in one encounter. I'm trying to make this race as legal as possible. But I can't remember the code to create the feat section. Do you have it posted somewhere? I'm not great with code yet. Also if you have any feat ideas let me know.--Vaerlas 08:21, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
I've attempted to fix Firepulse and it wont work. the code is supposed to be |attack=.... |defense=.... |hit=.... right? Also i added a clause to the trait section about the powers. Ill search the site for info on your coding. Still need some racial feats. Alls ive gotten so far is "Master of the Abyss"-can use both encounter powers. and Daemonic Familiar- take as opposed to Arcane Farmiliar and you gain some sort of imp from the Abyss as your familiar. Possibly "Rival of the Nine-Hells" you gain a +1 to damage and +1 to attack vs devils but that seems like a more campaign specific feat.--Vaerlas 09:45, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
Thats about 6 attempts to fix Firepulse. I will await professional assistance. lol--Vaerlas 09:54, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
- "Type" had to be "Attack" :) I removed "elemental" since I'm pretty sure that's not a keyword. I added the code for feat tables. Your feats will be automatically listed as long as they have the right categories. You might like to scour Flickr for an appropriate image, since they (usually) allow easy external linking. Marasmusine 12:21, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
Alright thanks a ton. I'll work on the feats later tonight. If you or anyone else has any ideas please lemme know. --Vaerlas 15:06, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
Okay im gonna be completely honest. All i know about code i got from viewing the creation page and the random stuff i've picked up from watching my girlfriend's computer science homework lol. So upon looking at the code for the feats i can follow it and see what it does in a general sense. So i haven't an idea how to insert a feat into the table you made. I even went so far as to open the Draco-Elf race and click edit simply to view the code for how he made draconic flight appear under the table only to find it identical to mine?--Vaerlas 16:59, 26 April 2012 (MDT)
- Go to 4e Feats and you'll see a button "Create new Feat". Name your feat in the box, retaining the "(4e Feat)", and press the button! After you've filled in the details, you'll also need to type "[[Category:Daemonfey Feat]]" - it will then automatically appear in this table! Marasmusine 01:04, 27 April 2012 (MDT)
All done. Just adding feats as i think of them throughout my free time. If anyone can think of something to add, remove, or repair lemme know. Thanks a ton to Marasmusine who without this page wouldn't be quite so balanced and some simply wouldn't make sense. I'm sure ill find a new project soon enough. I'm currently gonna help my brother make a race of playable Driders he is calling Lolth's Chosen.--Vaerlas 15:54, 27 April 2012 (MDT)
- ...aaaand I've left some feedback on the feats and the new race... you're going to get sick of me and my "needsbalance" templates :) Marasmusine 02:00, 28 April 2012 (MDT)
- hey if it's necessary to balance the race I'm all for it. You're gonna have fun trying to balance my brother's race lol. I'll get working on more feats for you to balance and try to drum up an image somewhere. I think there's one on google images that works. Flickr is blank for me:( no daemonfey, no fey'ri, and if you type demon elf there's a few plausible images.
