Merge, Stub, and Needsbalance[edit]

First Draft. Please supply feedback. I know its a different from current Cyclops Fluff in the Monster Manual but its designed to make the Cyclops more playable and to give them a purpose.

They only Speak elven because the Monster Manual said they did.

To me, its obvious that the size and weight (and thus STR, CON, etc.) for Cyclopes are way too low-- they're not even taller or heavier than a large human, and this, despite the gigantic size of the 4e miniature (Cyclops Crusher?) which is as big as any giant. At the current 6'0 to 6'8" tall, and 200-300 lbs, they're only man-size lightweights. In fact, there are men that are larger and more powerful than they are (i.e., they'd never be scouted for the NBA 1st Draft). Such small size offers nothing particular in the way of brute strength, and no real battle prowess. It's just far too small, given their reputation for strength, raw power and ferocity in combat. Even the smallest Ogre beats them, hands-down. The legendary Polyphemus from the Odessey was a giant, no mistake about it, and they're always depicted in books, film, and miniature figures as giant-size. Therefore, their size should be increased to "Large", and their hit dice & stats adjusted to at least somewhere in the Hill Giant range. (They're usually depicted as larger than mere ogres.) Otherwise, they're just burly, one-eyed, malcontented men. --WagTheDog 16 Aug 2012

What I've think what I've got for the Evil Eye power is similar to the MM one. if anybody can think of a non overpowered better version please discuss your ideas with me. --Vadoi 02:51, 10 December 2009 (MST)

I added merge and stub. Once those are both done I may take more of a look at it. --Green Dragon 11:59, 10 December 2009 (MST)
I can understand the need for merging but where is the flavor missing? I think I've put it all in. --Vadoi 15:45, 10 December 2009 (MST)
Finished merging. Now has fluff, no oversized rule and formatting. It may look like I just used the other page but I used ideas from this page to edit it (like adding daze and stunned to evil eye and removing the bonus to constitution and adding the bonus to athletics). I changed the old evil eye power to be more like the MM one but less underpowered then the first draft. I removed breaking blow because its not mentioned anywhere in MM. Please remove the improving templates or tell me where I need to improve more. --Vadoi 16:13, 10 December 2009 (MST)
Characteristics is blank also no -1's are allowed (I think). --Green Dragon 16:46, 10 December 2009 (MST)
Seeing u want +2, -2 or nothing I removed the -1 stealth penalty. (I wanted them to be a little non stealthy not extremly non stealthy. --Vadoi 16:42, 10 December 2009 (MST)
Finally Figured out what you mean by characteristics. Added some. Please remove the templates so it can be viewed as a legal balanced race. --Vadoi 16:42, 10 December 2009 (MST)
I did that. How cunning are cyclopses? Enough to warrant the +2 Int? Also the nest thing would be an image or NPCs of the sample adventures. --Green Dragon 16:54, 10 December 2009 (MST)
Either the site or my PC is stuffing up with uploaded files. It comes up with an error when i try. Also What do you mean by NPC's of the sample adventurers? (cause the MM allready has Cyclops profiles for NPCs)--Vadoi 17:41, 11 December 2009 (MST)
I formatted the image for you. You uploaded it right — no worries. By "NPCs" I mean the sample adventurers, if desired, could be made into NPCs and linked to from here (of course not needed). --Green Dragon 18:00, 11 December 2009 (MST)

I think that Evil Eye should stick to being an immediate reaction, so that the counter-attack is resolved straight away. Keeping track of who missed or hit you on a prior turn goes a little against 4e philosophy. I also find +2 Int a little puzzling. How about +2 Str, and then a choice of +2 Con or +2 Wis? Then you can be a tough 'clops or a cunning 'clops. Marasmusine 14:24, 28 December 2011 (MST)

From what I can see the Cyclops race doesn't really have that much going for it so I might take over and add some features to bring it up to par with the cannon D&D races, hopefully i'll keep the flavor close to what the creator was going for but no guarantees.--Aitharious (talk) 08:16, 6 July 2016 (MDT)
