Talk:Current Featured Article

Wait, so the main page featured article is a template from a page which contains nothing more than the table for the featured article, itself containing a template for the most recent FA? Why does it take two steps? Why not just take the contents of this page and put it into the main page table? I just tried it in the edit screen and nothing changed. Is this intended to abstract the process to reduce potential vandalism, or is it actually just a practice in arbitrary redundancy? It doesn't make it any easier to alter the display table; you can do that in the main page edit screen just as well. --Kydo (talk) 21:32, 25 September 2016 (MDT)

OK, so I tried to make some practical use of this by including it on the featured article project page as well. That way, it actually appears in more than one place, so we have reason to template it. If we decide to change its appearance, we'll only have to edit it in one place. However, this now makes me wonder what the value of the separate overview page is. I mean, it's just hand-written. Couldn't that be done just as easily inside this page? --Kydo (talk) 22:50, 25 September 2016 (MDT)
