Talk:Crested Helmet (5e Equipment)

I've rolled back the edits that replaced this description to the kind of helmet that comes with plate armor (copied from Wikipedia). This is supposed to be the gladitorial-style helm that is worn on its own. You can use the same item to represent a knight's great helm but if you use the text from Wikipedia, please supplement this description rather than replace it and abide by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reusing_Wikipedia_content, thanks Marasmusine (talk) 04:03, 19 August 2015 (MDT)

Was it the the pasted section from Wikipedia that was the only issue or was it that plus the replaced image? I suppose my contention here, and why I changed it, is that the Romans never possessed a "great helm". That term refers exclusively to the helmet of the High Middle Ages that was most popular during the Crusades. What's pictured here is a helmet that was popular with Murmillo gladiators. They are two different helmets from two vastly different time periods used in two entirely different contexts, so my original thought was that the person simply misattributed the name by mistake. My intention wasn't to split hairs but if the current description is adjusted along with the image being replaced would it suffice? Vobria (talk) 23:15, 17 May 2016 (MDT)
Yes, this is supposed to be the cassis crista as worn by the murmillo. I can rename this item if you like. Any idea what the literal translation of cassis crista is? Marasmusine (talk) 02:42, 18 May 2016 (MDT)
If I use Google translate "cassis crista" = "a metal comb", but "cassis" = helment and "crista" = "crest". So I'll go for "crested helmet". Marasmusine (talk) 02:45, 18 May 2016 (MDT)
I think that transliterating each word individually is the proper way to go here. GT might have been trying to translate the intended meaning rather than the individual words, hence the "metal comb" result. "Crested Helmet" makes the most sense. Vobria (talk) 21:31, 18 May 2016 (MDT)
