Talk:Chromatic Spray (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
I feel the at higher levels damage increase of 2d6 is too strong for this spell. From 6th level and higher it out performs Fireball and Lightning Bolt, two spells that are described as not being able to be used as benchmarks for balance as they exceed the idea of the spell balance at level due to being iconic spells. The ability to choose harder to resist damage types provides significant power to the spell. At 7th level, this spell deals higher damage than Delayed Blast Fireball (also a 7th level spell) on its initial blast, as well. If it increased at 1d6 damage at higher levels, this wouldn't be an issue at all, and it would also fall in line with single die damage increases that the vast majority of spells get when cast at higher levels. The base damage fits perfectly in line for 3rd level spells, though, only the damage increase at higher levels comes across as too strong.--Kahz (talk) 03:41, 9 October 2016 (MDT)
