Overpowered? - 3/15/2013
I apologize in advance, I'm not proficient in Wiki formatting.
This class seems to be pretty grossly overpowered compared to any regular DnD 3.5 class. The Fighter in 3.5 is an interesting class because their "class features" consist of just a lot of bonus feats that are combat oriented. This class looks like a Fighter that gets extra class features and better saves, on top of what a Fighter would normally get, with no deficit to bring them down to a balanced level asides from only being proficient in curved blades, and that in and of itself isn't a major drawback compared to all of the bonuses of a Battousai.
Potentially, this class could be leveled out to a similar strength as core base classes if the Bonus Feats are dropped entirely, and I'd say some sort of decrease in the Saves as well. The core classes in 3.5 typically max out their saves at level 20 with a +12, +6, +6 (no particular order) in their saves, at most a +12 +12 +6 for more utilitarian classes (Bard, for instance). +11 +11 +10 is really high saves at level 20, then, especially in combination with the fact that they have a high BAB like a fighter, the Bonus feats of a Fighter, yet also special attacks and abilities.
- Yeah, saves are either "good" (from +2 to +12) or "poor" (from +0 to +6), and dropping the bonus feats is a good idea. I will make those changes now. Marasmusine (talk) 13:15, 15 March 2013 (MDT)
I agree partially with these suggestions. The class states that it requires a very rigorous training regimen and also requires a minimum of 15 years worth of training. It is a much more strict training than the monk, which as a core class requires a minimum of one year training before you can begin to advance in the class. Munks at 20th level have saves of +12 in all three. The Battousai, requiring a more strenuous training regimen and also requiring the body and mind to be in symmetry, hence the reason for the required preform of poetry and the strict stat requirements. These stats are trained into them, they are training in other forms of art as well, which helps to round out the mind. Ranger was used as an example but the Monk has higher saves all around than the Battousai was given, and all other classes max out with a 12 in at least one of the three categories, but the Battousai do not. I'm leaving off the bonus feats, which were added after having several conversations with friends and people I met on an MMO that shared an interest in D&D suggested that I leave them on there because they're not much more than a glorified fighter below 10th level. Since I have uploaded it a friend of mine and I had decided to go ahead and remove the bonus feats for the OPness of the class at higher levels. However, in my opinion this class never touches the OPness of the Monk core class. I'm going to replace my original saves, I hope I have given enough justification for them to remain. Just a quick comment: I noticed that the description of Soryuuken says "at sixth level" yet, on the chart is is listed as 5th. Kinda confused... M149307 (talk) 21:40, 20 July 2013 (MDT)
Interesting class, although you should provide examples of battle, since it seems to me that there's no real combination except flash step and quick draw and no reason what-so-ever to not use your strongest ability over and over again. Kinda dull. Also, how often can the Battousai's abilities be used? Except the flash step, nothing else is mentioned. Can flash-step be used to deny falling damage? Can it be used in conjunction with other forms of movement? What about hard terrain? What action equivalent are all of Battousai's abilities? Please take some time to make this class look like it was written in one of the core books. Explain thoroughly all of it's parts. The idea is great but it needs some heavy polishing. Also, having three good saves is just fine by me. Thanx for reading, hope i've helped improve the Hitokiri. Over and out -Thanos 1/12/2014
