Talk:Banker (5e Background)

I like this concept. What could the feature be? It's tempting to do something with money, but I think we should avoid direct financial gain. Maybe something like the guild artisan's guild membership. "With your credentials you are always able to acquire the necessary license to establish a local branch of your bank." You pay 5 gp per month but can issue loans and so forth. Check to see how the earliest banks operated. Marasmusine (talk) 09:50, 13 November 2016 (MST)

If you look at the Medici's banking of Florence, you'll notice that with loans, they never had interest because it was a sin to do so (Usury - Making money off of lending other's money). But Christianity may not be the religion of choice for a banker, so they could quite possibly do something along those lines. I also love the idea of being able to set up local banks. There has to be some sort of advantage to that, though. The bank should be able to get a good or bad reputation and the owner should be able to go in and withdraw 100gp, but only for emergency uses. I hate this concept. --209.97.85.48 17:25, 23 November 2016 (MST)

My biggest problem is why would the (ex)banker want to become an Adventurer. --Redrum 17:56, 7 December 2016 (MST)

Being rich can only please one person for so long. Maybe the bank had stated failing and they needed some pocket money. It could be possible that the banker wanted to increase the range of services that the bank offers or wanted to raise the reputation of the bank. Ya never know... I find the premise absolutely interesting, but I am already afraid if this background overlaps with the Guild Artisan background, as presented in PHB. But at the same time, I can't wait to have my best banker jokes handy! (My favorite comes from the film I Don't Know How She Does It: "If you win this for us, we'll forgive you for being a banker.") --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 14:01, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Aaand Mara suggested the same thing way before me. Heh. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 14:01, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Either complete it or delete it. --209.97.85.48 14:22, 12 August 2017 (MDT)

I fleshed it out. I dunno if it still fits with the view the others contributing to this discussion had, but i propose removing the templates now, but want to hear if my take on the background is still what the others here wanted.--Doctor Dee (talk) 00:38, 23 February 2019 (MST)

I am removing the templates because they are no longer valid (It has a description, features, secondary characteristics... it can't really be called "incomplete"). Based Quincy (talk) 13:50, 23 February 2019 (MST)
