Talk:Awesome Equipment (5e Equipment)

There's a hard cap of 30 for ability scores in 5e. A Charisma of 30 would represent some Greater Deity level of personality. Equipment that could take you there ought to be artifacts.Marasmusine (talk) 22:18, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Unless you mean for the mechanics to be a joke as well as the theme. Marasmusine (talk) 22:18, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

A: First and foremost, I did remove the Fancy Tie and the Super Speedy Slippers so that a player could only have up to 30 Charisma. Next, while the theme is a joke, the mechanics certainly aren't. I intended for the Awesome Equipment to add a bit of humor and personality to anyone's D&D campaign, and while the may sound silly, they may certainly be used in a real campaign, and I hope people actually do use them in their own campaigns. Lastly, I do see how having anywhere near 30 Charisma would be god-like, which is why the Awesome Equipment has a Legendary rarity.

Okay, thanks for the explanation. Marasmusine (talk) 21:21, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for keeping an eye on me. Calibri (talk) 14:44, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, one way it can be improved. 5e magic items don't really increase ability scores this way, as the system avoids stacking bonuses. If you look at things like 5e SRD:Belt of Giant Strength, the standard now is to just set the value.
You could have "If you wear one item in the set, your Charisma score changes to 21. If you wear two items, it changes to 24. If you wear three items, it changes to 27. If you wear all four items, it changes to 30." Marasmusine (talk) 22:08, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
I could, except the max 30 Charisma would only be possible if a player has 20 Charisma already, and as cool as the Epic Theme Song Player is, it still couldn't bring a player with 0 Charisma up to 21. The other thing is that some items are intentionally "more awesome" than others. For instance, having a theme song play whenever you enter a room is always going to be cooler than a set of wrist cuffs, even if they are on fire. So I understand what you're saying, but in this case it just wouldn't work as well.

April Fools[edit]

Can this be added and be done with? User stated this is equipment made for fun and provide humor at the table. I don't agree with its balance or lack of fluff, but I don't see any intent on this becoming the quality of a serious, playable, article. BigShotFancyMan (talk) 09:57, 4 May 2018 (MDT)

April Fools template is for well written, funny articles. This isn't anything, just some random names and numbers. Marasmusine (talk) 10:16, 4 May 2018 (MDT)
Not to disagree with its incompleteness, but funny is subjective...
What would like seen done with this equipment then considering the discussion with the primary contributor? Remove AFD template and stub it? It never gets flavor/fluff so propose delete for issues never addressed? I offer that in seriousness too, not sarcastically. It seems appropriate and fair to me.
