Talk:Aven (5e Race)

First things that come to mind are a lack of "Size." and "Languages." under "traits" and the fact intelligence is misspelled as "intelegence" along with other spelling mistakes. I do think this race seems a bit well overcomplicated with some of the stats. EG: "Your base walking speed is 40 feet minus your weight divided by 25, rounded down. Youre base flying speed is 60 minus your weight divided by 20." Why not just have 40 as the walking speed and 50 as the flying speed. That cuts out the unneeded maths. Another thing is I do think that lore is very little. EG "Tall and slim with powerful wings."

When I read that, I kinda can not think about what they look like. You could talk about things like skin, eye and hair color, what their wings look like (are they feathed / batlike / like bug wings ? so on. I would say fleashing out the race can help, I mena, you might eveen get ideas for their racil traits that way This might help you: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/5e_Race_Design_Guide#Preload_Walk-Through

There are already statistics for aarakocra in the Elemental Evil Player's Companion (found here). SirSprinkles (talk) 04:05, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Yo! I added a ton of balance changes to one of my favorite races on this site! I tried following the Muscius Meter with the most amount of accuracy as possible, so let me know if any more changes need to be made! :)

Hi, I've looked through it all. A wingspan of 10ft is worth -0.5 not -1 so I adjusted it below making the score 8. I also added in the SRD references, corrected some grammar errors in the lore and better standardized the traits by removing the variable flying speeds. As the class stands at the moment I'd say the score is too high for a flying race as a flight speed is such a dominating feature in the early game. You should really be aiming for the same score of the Aarakocra(7) without overloading the race with too many traits. This could be done quite easily by removing the ability score increases that the subraces have. ConcealedLight (talk) 00:31, 1 January 2018 (MST)

Alrighty, I made the changes necessary. It was really hard for me to remove those subrace-specific ability score increases, since I'm so used to "+2 one stat +1 another", but I think the race turned out great thanks to your help! Thanks again, Concealed! :)

Musicus Meter
Score: 8
This race has a score of 8 according to the Musicus Meter race guidelines. With this metric, first-party races' scores range from 4.5 to 8. This is a guideline, not a rule, and it's important to use your own judgment alongside this scoring.
This scoring may be the groundwork for a focused {{needsbalance}} usage. A contributor to this page may request a detailed breakdown of this page's balance. Without this information, {{needsbalance}} may then be removed. This meter cannot be the sole basis for a needsbalance template, but may be included as an accessory to a wider discussion of a race's balance.
This template should only be placed on a race's talk page. If this template is not placed on the talk page, please move it.
