Talk:Armor of the Phoenix (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Issues[edit]
Looking through this armor, there appears to be several glaring design and balance issues. I will be going through and bring up the specific issues with this armor below.
- Design
- This armor is overall a flavor failure. When thinking of phoenixes, two prominent themes come to mind, fire, and rejuvenation/rebirth. Meanwhile, this armor was designed to provide a host of benefits, but these themes are hardly present with the immunity to fire damage being the only mention of these things.
- Having this armor be restricted to the use of a random specific homebrew is far too strict a requirement for a magic item.
- Balance
- The overall benefits this armor provides are extremely over-tuned. A legendary piece of armor without attunement provides +3 AC. With attunement, a piece of armor could perhaps provide +4 AC and minor other benefits. However, this armor goes far beyond what even an artifact could feasibly provide. Going over it, the armor is more powerful than a baseline legendary armor with its AC bonus, has the effects of an uncommon piece of armor, a better version of the rare armor of resistance, and more bonus AC based on your ability scores (which is also a problem).
Really, this armor likely needs to be reworked pretty substantially to fix these issues. More unique and interesting properties would be a place to start along with the vast reduction in power of this armor's current properties. --Blobby383b (talk) 18:33, 22 December 2021 (MST)
