Replacing a "top" build with a variant[edit]

Have a build that is better than the one in a listed catagory? Discuss replacing it here This is so we can keep track of changes and double check that the suggested build is legal according to the rules. Thank you for complying.

Steps for replacing a Build[edit]

  1. Write your full build in detail in the variant section at the bottom of the page.
  2. Make a suggestion in the section bellow this one named "build replacement requests". Be sure to list the name you called your build in the variant section.
  3. If at least one other optimizer agrees/finds no flaws, you may procceed.
  4. Copy the build you wish to replace down into the variant section. Give it some catchy name and what catagory it belongs in (Example: Paladin AC max, No Multiclassing or magic items)
  5. Copy and paste your build into the catagory, its name is now the name of that catagory. (Example 1: No spells) (Example 2: No spells or magic items)

Build Replacement Requests[edit]

I have a build that I would recommend for the AL build. A paladin 2/Swords Bard 18 that has an average static AC of 30, or 36 against 1 attack. The maximum AC is a 51 against 1 attack, without any magic items and just 1 spell. This can be accomplished with a variant human, boosting dex and charisma. For your feat you should pick defensive duelist, which allows you to add your proficiency bonus to your AC. Your array should look like this: str 15 dex 16 con 8 int 8 wis 8 cha 16. Take your first two levels in paladin for the heavy armor proficiency. Take defense for your fighting style for the +1 AC. Then go straight up swords bard. Use your ASIs to max out dexterity and charisma. When this is done, not only will you be a 19th level spellcaster, and formidable melee fighter as you have access to divine smite and a whole lot of spell slots. The combo for AC is to cast shield of faith on yourself while wearing plate and a shield. This gets your AC to 23. Then you use defensive flourish on both attacks, but using the D6, not the d12 inspiration die. A higher AC is possible with 2 fighter levels, 1 forge cleric level, and 17 bard levels, starting at a warforged with a maximum of 79 AC, but the build sacrifices the fighting power and simplicity of the other build.

Other Edits, Suggestions or Noticed Issues[edit]

Hey, Anon Edit. You can't go above 30 in Dexterity. This build goes with RAW, unlike your addition.

Note for the Max AC Without Spells section: You could also grab a ring of protection and an ioun stone of protection for an extra +2.
