Talk:9−20 Crit Specialist (3.5e Optimized Character Build)
From D&D Wiki
Just got around to reading the build, anyway, 1 major flaw. Lightning mace feat specifically states "Whenever you roll a threat on an attack roll while using a light mace in each hand, you gain an additional attack at the same attack bonus." If you are using a scimitar with the aptitude weapon on it. That's fine for the weapon feats the character has, however lightning mace will not work it because the weapon is not a light mace.
You forgot about the minimum DEX requirements for 2-weapon fighting feats. Just ITWF requires Dexterity 17- this build includes nothing to support that.
The Build doesn't get ITWF until late, plenty of time to get a +6 item.
- So, to shut this character down, we damage its dex, or MD, or put it in an antimagic field, and it loses its dex feats. Also, sign your posts, pls. Also, it's not clear if enhancement mods qualify you for feats, it's been an ongoing debate on the optimization boards for years. --Ganre 09:49, 20 January 2012 (MST)
- Weapon Aptitude allows you change the weapon you have selected for feats that designate a specific weapon. Such as changing Weapon Focus(Longsword) to Weapon Focus(Greatsword). You must spend 1 hour each morning to change your selections and must have the weapon to train with. You do not treat a weapon as another for feat purposes. --173.245.50.116 19:55, 17 March 2012 (MDT)
- The person that posted this obviously didn't read the books and just (attempted) to copy it from somewhere else. You are absolutely right that Weapon Aptitude doesn't do anything for this build. The "Aptitude" weapon enhancement is what the author wants. Also, this build is pretty mild compared to the shenanigans that can take place. The build I saw posted elsewhere will generate infinite attacks (on average) by having an expected number of attacks gained per attack of greater than 1. --173.245.52.127 07:53, 20 June 2012 (MDT)
he also messed up on his math, 18-20 scimitars like claimed would generate a 12+ w/ simply iron power @ lvl 8. w/ imp crit(book claims they stack) would take it to a (if you use multiplicitve rules IE 2x3x=6x or if you use additive like in exponaites)3+@6x (mulitplicitve) and 6+@5x(additive).... you also need the WF for a slashing weapon.... before dervish.... so that pushes the infinate attacks out further at the high threat. -Russ
This is sharp, smelly cheddar, but you don't seem to have an issue with it: slap on a level of Martial Monk (-skill points, +fighter feats instead of monks, but without the prerequisites, Dragon magazine 310). That will get you feats like , say, Weapon Supremacy: A number of positives, along with the right to take 10 on attacks with your favored weapon, a.k.a the scimitar. What that means is automatic criticals. You can take a 2nd for another such feat (like epic fighter feats?), and I suspect you'll be able to afford to spend some levels.
